Any donations received that exceed what is needed for this emergency will be directed to other areas of greatest humanitarian need.
On March 28, 2025, a 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar, causing widespread destruction. The tremors were felt in neighboring countries, Thailand, India, Laos, Bangladesh and China. The earthquake has further exacerbated Myanmar's ongoing humanitarian crisis which includes armed conflict displacing over 3.5 million people. Infrastructure is destroyed and children are in constant fear of violence. In the aftermath of this disaster, they are now at high risk of abuse and exploitation.
Supporting Plan International's response to the earthquakes means supporting the unique needs of girls. We help all people in crisis, and with your support, we'll make sure girls' needs in particular don't fall through the cracks. Our immediate response will focus on providing dignity kits (containing soap, toothbrush & toothpaste, menstrual health supplies, and other essentials), ensuring child protection, the continuation of education and providing psychosocial support.
As communities rebuild, Plan International will provide psychosocial support for children and families, address the protection risks that these types of disasters expose for women and girls, and ensure children still have access to an education.
