My World My Garden, Ray-Cam Cooperative, Vancouver Update
The Ray-Cam wall is growing and we are getting donations starting to come in, including corporate donations, which is exciting, as it will allow us to build more walls in Africa sooner.
The Ray-Cam wall is now producing enough food for 150 families and we still have food left over which is being prepared for winter use when the wall will be dormant. Speaking of the winter in Vancouver, we are investigating what plants we can grow as far into the winter season as possible and will update you on that in fall report. Take a look at the pictures to see how well the wall is doing.
My World In a Garden, Bergnek, Limpopo, South Africa Update
Our garden in Bergnek was doing quite well until recently when the community pump which the local municipality was taking care of broke down. Unfortunately they would not commit to a date to get the pump operational and we had to jump in and get the pump repaired. Take a look at our 'One Brick at a Time' project here on GlobalGiving to find out what we've done to find a more reliable and sustainable solution for the water needs in Bergnek, by creating partnerships.
The good news is now that we have restored water to the community we are also ready to re-plant the wall and get food growing again by September. It is the winter season in Bergnek right now, so we had a break in the growing season and are looking forward to getting all of our plants growing again as the spring rainy season begins again for late 2013, allowing us to end the year producing food again.
