Become a change-maker and help Birongo's children to rescue their cultural education! This project seeks to build a Musical School which will be co-designed with members of the Birongo community in order to promote, cultivate and preserve musical and cultural heritage to present and future generations. Birongo is an Afro-Caribbean community located in the north of Venezuela, with great challenges such as violence, teenage pregnancy, drugs, and self-demotivation. Let's change that reality!
Birongo is place filled with a unique cultural heritage but it is also a community full of challenges, unemployment, violence, drugs, teenage pregnancy, illiteracy, to name a few. On top of all of this challenges their unique and amazing cultural heritage is in danger of extinction. This project will provide the community with a place that will be the heart and soul of their culture, a place of pride and knowledge transmission and provide the youth with options to overcome their challenges.
We've already acquired a base infrastructure to build the Musical School, now we have to REALLY build it. Providing the community with a place where they can connect, grow, learn and be proud of the cultural heritage will diminish the exposure to the many risks they face in their environment.
The Birongo's Musical School will directly impact over a hundred members of the community, giving them the tools needed to preserve and cultivate their musical traditions and also opening the possibility of transforming their musical programs and cultural projects into a sought after tourism experiences. Also, if we can make this model successful, we can scale it to the other rural and vulnerable communities where we work.
