Friday the 12th May 2017 marked a turning point in environmental education. The Music for the environment project was launched at CURELF, formerly called Franco Alliance, Buea - Cameroon. The Music for the environment project was conceived by the staff of the Resource Centre for Environment and Sustainable Development (RCESD) in the year 2015. The music for the environment project (Camer Green) is aimed at encouraging best environmental practices through music. The event was graced by the Regional Delegate for Environment, Protection of Nature and Sustainable Development (MINEPDEP) for the South West Region of Cameroon, Mr. Set Ekwadi and the Regional Delegate for Arts and Culture for the South West Region of Cameroon, Madame Ngo Grace Ewang.
During the welcome speech by the Executive Director, he emphasized on the reason why the medium is music. "Everybody loves music and at every particular time in the day, we listen to music. There is music when we want to sleep, there is music when we eat, and some even listen to music while they work. Music being part of our daily lives it has great potentials to transmit information in a way that can affect our lifestyle." He then encouraged youths between 15 and 35 to write educative songs, to encourage people to save the earth while we still can.
The Regional Delegate of MINEPDEP congratulated the staff of RCESD for this brilliant idea and urged them to continue with their good work. He educated the people on some of the repercussions of bad environmental practices and also pledged the support of the MINEPDEP in this brilliant work. The delegate of Arts and Culture, before officially launching the project emphasized on the need to give sustainable alternatives to people who destroy the environment in one way or the other. She suggested that providing alternatives might solve the problem we are having in our nation today. Her speech was followed by cutting of the ribbon and that moment mark the official opening of the Camer green competition. It is official!!!!!!!
There were musical and poetic displays by the staff of RCESD and also by a guest artist who sings about the environment, Mr. John Njabi.
The chairman of the Board of Trustees of RCESD in a speech thanked everybody for participating in the project launching and encouraged everyone to work harder to effectively encourage environmental best practices.
