Our program applies proven curricula to teach survivors of human trafficking computer programming and other skills demanded by today's technology companies. We provide survivors with viable means of ongoing self-support - something absent from today's anti-trafficking movement. We will train up to 26 survivors living in the Bay Area in this pilot and help them find work after completing our program, which is customized to each survivor's aptitude and interest.
Human trafficking survivors often receive little skills training and no career training that can help them get back on their feet and support themselves. Most were trafficked before completing school and some have arrest records (by no fault of their own). They suffer unique discrimination in many cases as ex-sex workers, and face an uphill battle reintegrating into the workforce. Without career options, many return to traffickers or exploitation for support.
AnnieCannons provides survivors with compassionate, customized career training in growing technology fields with demonstrated demand for workers. We both train and use practice projects to help survivors build portfolios in one of three tracks: (1) industry support such as quality assurance testing, data entry, and data management, (2) web design, or (3) application development. We provide a supportive environment for safe learning that is flexible to support survivors' unique needs.
In addition to training, we help connect survivors with development work using the portfolios they have built and even employ graduates as teachers and mentors for more classes. We help survivors achieve true economic independence and enable the empowerment of even more survivors around the country and the world. The community we build will amplify the voices of survivors and help empower them to prevent future trafficking through technology.
