Morocco has been hit hard by a strong earthquake measuring magnitude 6.8. Remote communities in the High Atlas Mountains have been badly affected. The Eve Branson Foundation is working quickly with our partners to lead a co-ordinated response so that we can get emergency relief on the ground in Asni and support long-term recovery efforts. Providing help and relief for families and staff from EBF and Kasbah Tamadot is our priority and to aid long-term recovery efforts.
The earthquake struck the High Atlas Mountains about 50 miles from Marrakech with a strength not recorded in the region in 120 years. Remote villages have been the worst affected and hundreds of families need our help. The quake has left extensive damage, toppling homes, destroying vital infrastructure, and leaving a yet untold number of people in need of rescue and help in hard-to-reach areas. This project will power our efforts to close gaps in response and lead long-term recovery.
All donations to this project will support Morocco earthquake relief and recovery efforts in the Asni valley. Initially, the fund is helping to meet the immediate needs of families for food, fuel, clean water, medicine, and shelter. The fund will then transition to focus on recovery efforts in the impacted areas around our programmes to restore damaged schools, relocate classrooms, rebuild infrastructure, and more as needs evolve.
The fund will rebuild housing for hundreds of families, provide a stable infrastructure for roads, schools and public buildings and support efforts to restore cultural tourism programmes, allowing Berber people in Asni and its surrounding villages to move forward.
