On the night of September 8, 2023, the province of Al-Haouz, south of Marrakech in central
Morocco, was struck by a devastating earthquake measuring 6.8 on the Richter scale, which shook the entire nation.
This was the most powerful seismic event to hit our country in over a century.
For over a century, it has propelled people into the streets, triggering construction work in ancient towns and structurally fragile mountain villages.
In old towns and mountain villages with fragile infrastructures, over 26,000 houses collapsed.
In the first phase, with agility, we mobilized all our teams to meet the most basic needs. We then rapidly tackled the problem of access to housing, to provide families affected by the earthquake with solid shelters.
To date, we have delivered 108 prefabricated houses and 24 sanitary units to 108 families, and we have opened several other mobile home construction sites in several villages, including houses financed by funds raised via GlobalGiving.
JoodViLLAGES is part of our mission to reduce inequalities by supporting all people in precarious situations, through protection and social inclusion; access to housing, employment, personal hygiene and food security.
