This project empowers women in their rights of equity and gender equality, through the creation of family microenterprises so that they have more independence and their own economic income. Through "field schools" where we train and work with both men and women, so that they recognize the importance of gender in the family and at work.
In Micani District, only about 2% of socially relevant decisions are made by women, since machismo is strongly rooted and women are subjected to the decisions made by men; gender roles practically do not exist in the communities and families, in addition, men are mainly responsible for controlling and managing the family's monetary income. household income is low, approximately US$200.
Due to these factors, and the low participation of women, "field schools" were created. We work on capacity building of the main actors and empowerment of women, based on the traditions, cultural and ancestral values of the local population, training women in the formation of self-managed micro-enterprises, which support each other in a process of solidarity, with the goal of improving their living conditions in a self-determined way in terms of their rights, health and economic situation.
We are working with 34 families trained to form their microenterprise with gender equity, through the empowerment of women in gender equity (both in the family and in schools). It is expected that after a test phase we will work with all families in the district of Micani (approx. 400 families) and all students (approx. 900).
