Monthly Support for Food and Shelter

Ny came to stay at Santepheap on 16 November 2008, because his family were poor farmers and he has six brothers and sisters and his school was so far from his house.

He left Santepheap at the beginning of 2015 when he had an opportunity to apply to train at SOS Vocational Training Center, Angkor, Siem Reap for skills, such as carpenter, welding, plumbing, electrician, computer and English. SOS school provided the tuition, room and board to their students like Santepheap as well.

After completing this vocational training for one year, Ny was offered and accepted a decent job as a maintenance engineer at the SOS school that is located in Kampot province. This was after he received many positive recommendations from the director of SOS VTC in Siem Reap province. Being an International NGO, and as a staff member, Ny got a great salary, free accommodation and lunch as well, so this is a great chance for him. Now he has a full capacity workload and he is working very hard and earning more money to support his daily expenses by himself.

A few months ago, six of our children left Santepheap after five of them completed grade 12 and continued for higher education.Two girls have gone onto university, and other one completed only grade 9. Here is their progress information:

1.Mol and Chantrea Both of them attend the University of Southeast Asia in the field of Hospitality and Tourism Management. They are on a scholarship, including tuition, school fees, school uniform, school supplies and $25 for pocket money, from One Step, One Life organization. They will study for four years to graduate with a bachelor degree.

2.Phanny is now studying at Teacher’s College. After he passed the exam last month, his scholarship covers his tuition and fees. After studying for two years, he will be a Khmer teacher at primary school.

3.Kid decided to continue his study at the Technology School in the field of Architecture in Phnom Penh, supported by his elder brother. This major takes five years to complete.

4.Nang has begun studies at SOS Vocational Training Center, Angkor, Siem Reap for the skills of carpentry, welding, plumbing, electrician, computer and English. SOS school provides the tuition, room and board for their students, the same as Santepheap. After completing this vocational training for one year, SOS school will find a decent job for their students, so this is a great chance for Nang to save more money for continuing his higher level at university.

5.Kmao has a contract with Haven restaurant to ensure that Kmao will train for a year with other trainees to be a cook. Kmao decided to choose vocational training as a cook since he is old enough for a job now. Haven restaurant supports their trainees for everything include training, shelter, food, clothing, education, health care, pocket money etc.

They all study hard as now the curriculum is very tough, so only hard-working students will have a chance to pass. Now a days, ASEAN integration is implemented, and there aren’t any economic borders among the ten ASEAN countries. For this, we need to prepare ourselves well, especially for the younger people. The job market will be much tighter and more competitive. We are so happy to see their hard work and determination to study. All of them have clear purposes for what they have chosen so we believe that they will see success in their lives.

It is thanks to the generous support of our donors that these success stories are possible. After seven years at The Cambodian Children's House of Peace, each of these students continue the record of successful transition to higher education and vocational training, and entry into the workforce.
