This project will multiply mobile libraries for improving reading habits through interactive learning in the urban slums of Lahore/Karachi. Target groups include the most marginalized children found in: streets- orphanages- with disabilities-public parks and from garbage picking communities, with special focus on girls. Approximately 9000-10000 beneficiaries will benefit from this outreach project annually. This is a high impact low cost model for the most vulnerable.
Low learning levels and low learning opportunities through interactive reading are key problems of Schools and communities located in challenged circumstances specially in urban slums.
Project "Kitab Garee/a Mobile Rickshaw Library" will enhance reading learning in children and communities living in urban slums of Lahore and Karachi visiting each location regularly. It comes equipped with 600-1000 books (Fiction/Non-Fiction and Reference), digital tablets (5) for tech enabled learning, board games, arts and crafts and a screen "cinema ghar/house" showing films for edutainment (e.g. Sesame Street, SoC films/Quaid Say Batain; Allahyar, short films and music videos etc.)
The Donation requested is small but it will create immense public good! It targets children, teachers and families in schools and neighborhoods in dire need for quality interactive learning combined with wonder and imagination. Annually almost ten thousand children in 15 low income neighbourhoods and schools of Lahore/karachi. Kitab Garee will be at Book & Expo/Festivals; the Mobile Library team will engage in inclusive workshops/activities on reading and writing with expression.
