Dear GlobalGiving Community,

Warm greetings from No One Down Relief Organization (NODRO).

We are pleased to share our latest progress report for the project "Mobile Health Clinics for Conflict Affected Mother." This initiative aims to restore access to essential maternal, newborn, and primary healthcare services for conflict-affected women, children, and vulnerable families living in underserved communities across Ethiopia.

Through mobile health clinics, NODRO continues to bring life-saving healthcare closer to communities that have limited or no access to functioning health facilities due to conflict, displacement, and damaged infrastructure. During this reporting period, the project has improved access to maternal healthcare, disease prevention, nutrition services, health education, and referrals while strengthening community resilience.

Project Overview

The Mobile Health Clinics for Conflict Affected Mother project seeks to improve the health and well-being of women and children affected by conflict by delivering integrated primary healthcare services through mobile outreach teams.

The project focuses on:

  • Mobile maternal and child healthcare services
  • Antenatal and postnatal care
  • Basic primary healthcare consultations
  • Nutrition screening and counselling
  • Health education and disease prevention
  • Vaccination referral and follow-up
  • Mental health and psychosocial support referrals
  • Referral services for complicated medical cases
  • Community health awareness and outreach

Key Challenges Addressed

The project responds to several critical humanitarian and health challenges, including:

  • Limited access to healthcare due to conflict and displacement
  • High maternal and infant health risks
  • Interrupted reproductive health services
  • Acute malnutrition among mothers and children
  • Disease outbreaks linked to poor living conditions
  • Shortage of healthcare personnel in remote communities
  • Long travel distances to functioning health facilities
  • Limited health awareness among vulnerable populations

Key Achievements (April – June 2026)

During this reporting period, the project achieved the following:

  • Provided mobile healthcare services to 2,150 conflict-affected women and children
  • Conducted 840 antenatal care (ANC) consultations for pregnant women
  • Delivered 510 postnatal care (PNC) consultations for new mothers
  • Screened 1,380 children under five for acute malnutrition
  • Provided nutrition counselling to 920 pregnant and lactating women
  • Conducted 65 mobile clinic outreach sessions in conflict-affected communities
  • Referred 185 high-risk maternal and child health cases to nearby health facilities for specialized care
  • Reached more than 6,800 community members through health education and disease prevention campaigns

Early Impact & Beneficiary Story

Restoring Hope through Mobile Healthcare

A mother from the Amhara Region shared:

"When the nearby health center stopped functioning because of the conflict, I feared for my pregnancy. The mobile clinic visited our village and provided antenatal care, medicines, and health advice. I received the support I needed without travelling long distances. This service gave me hope and protected both my health and my baby's life."

Observed Changes

The project has already contributed to positive improvements within the targeted communities:

  • Increased access to essential maternal healthcare services
  • Improved early detection of pregnancy-related complications
  • Better nutritional awareness among pregnant and lactating women
  • Increased community knowledge on disease prevention and hygiene
  • Improved referral of complicated maternal and child health cases
  • Reduced barriers to healthcare access for displaced families
  • Strengthened trust between communities and healthcare providers

Community Participation

Community engagement remains central to successful implementation.

Throughout the reporting period:

  • Community leaders supported outreach planning and beneficiary mobilization.
  • Community Health Volunteers assisted in identifying pregnant women and vulnerable children.
  • Women's groups participated in health awareness sessions.
  • Local health authorities coordinated referral services and follow-up care.
  • Community members actively provided feedback through project accountability mechanisms.

This participatory approach strengthens local ownership while ensuring services respond to community priorities.

Challenges Encountered

Despite encouraging progress, several operational challenges were experienced:

  • Continued insecurity limiting access to some communities
  • Poor road conditions affecting mobile clinic movements
  • Shortages of essential medicines in nearby referral facilities
  • Increased demand for healthcare services beyond available resources
  • Rising transportation and operational costs
  • Seasonal weather conditions affecting outreach schedules

Response Measures

To address these challenges, NODRO has:

  • Adjusted mobile clinic schedules based on security assessments.
  • Strengthened coordination with local health authorities.
  • Improved referral pathways for emergency obstetric cases.
  • Increased community health education to promote early care-seeking.
  • Expanded outreach planning to maximize available resources.
  • Continued advocacy for additional funding to reach underserved populations.

Monitoring & Accountability

NODRO maintains robust monitoring and accountability systems through:

  • Routine mobile clinic service records
  • Patient registration and follow-up tracking
  • Maternal and child health monitoring tools
  • Nutrition screening records
  • Community feedback and complaint mechanisms
  • Regular supervisory visits
  • Periodic project performance reviews
  • Continuous data quality verification
