Dear GlobalGiving Community,
Three months ago, No One Down Relief Organization (NODRO) launched the project “Mobile Health Clinics for Conflict-Affected Mothers”, a life-saving initiative designed to bring essential healthcare services directly to women and children in Ethiopia’s conflict-affected regions.
The project addresses one of the most pressing humanitarian gaps: the lack of accessible maternal and child healthcare in displaced and remote communities. Through our mobile clinics, we are delivering medical care, health education, and hope to mothers who have lost access to hospitals and health centers due to conflict and displacement.
How Our Project Is Progressing So Far
Since its launch in July 2025, NODRO’s mobile health teams have been operating in Afar, Amhara, and Oromia Regions, areas heavily affected by internal displacement and limited access to healthcare. Our mobile clinics — staffed with nurses, midwives, and health educators — travel weekly to remote settlements to deliver free maternal, child, and emergency health services.
Through strong collaboration with regional health bureaus, local authorities, and community volunteers, the project is successfully bridging healthcare gaps for hundreds of women and children who would otherwise remain unseen and untreated.
Achievements from July – October 2025
ü Provided 3,250 medical consultations to mothers and children across 12 displacement sites.
ü Assisted 180 safe deliveries through trained midwives in mobile clinic units.
ü Distributed 850 maternal health kits containing sanitary pads, baby blankets, and basic medicines.
ü Conducted 25 community health awareness sessions on nutrition, hygiene, and disease prevention.
ü Vaccinated 1,100 children under five against preventable diseases (polio, measles, and tetanus).
ü Partnered with 3 regional hospitals to refer high-risk cases and ensure continuity of care.
Stories of Hope & Impact
A Mother’s Healing in Afar:
Fatuma, a 32-year-old displaced mother, shared:
“When I went into labor, there was no hospital nearby. The NODRO mobile clinic reached us just in time. They saved my life and my baby’s. I will never forget their kindness.”
Women Empowering Women:
In Amhara, displaced women trained as community health promoters are now leading awareness sessions, helping others recognize danger signs during pregnancy and childbirth.
Health on Wheels:
In Oromia, mobile clinics travel across rugged terrain, bringing doctors and nurses to settlements that had gone over two years without medical visits. Mothers line up not just for medicine, but for reassurance and compassion.
Challenges We Face
ü While the impact has been tremendous, several challenges persist:
ü Fuel shortages and high transportation costs limit clinic mobility.
ü Insecurity occasionally restricts access to certain zones.
ü Medicine stockouts and supply chain delays disrupt regular service delivery.
ü Limited funding prevents expanding mobile units to all identified communities.
Despite these challenges, our teams remain resilient — improvising by using solar-powered refrigerators for vaccines, sourcing drugs locally, and coordinating closely with local health workers to ensure uninterrupted services.
What’s Next? (November 2025 – January 2026)
ü Deploy two additional mobile health units to reach 8 new displacement sites.
ü Train 40 new community health volunteers to support mothers and newborns.
ü Supply 1,200 reproductive health kits and 600 baby care packages.
ü Conduct baseline surveys to assess maternal and child health status in target areas.
ü Strengthen partnerships with regional health bureaus for integration and sustainability.
Sustainability and Long-Term Vision
This initiative goes beyond emergency response — it’s a foundation for resilient community-based healthcare.
Our goal is to integrate these mobile clinics into the regional primary healthcare system by:
ü Building local capacity through training and mentorship.
ü Establishing women-led health committees for accountability.
ü Creating a mobile health data system for ongoing monitoring.
By 2030, NODRO aims to expand mobile health services to reach 100,000 mothers and children across Ethiopia’s most vulnerable regions.
Why This Project Matters
Conflict and displacement leave mothers and children disproportionately exposed to illness, malnutrition, and unsafe childbirth. This project is their lifeline — restoring health, dignity, and hope.
ü $50 provides medicine for one mother and her newborn.
ü $200 supports a full-day mobile clinic operation.
ü $500 equips a nurse and midwife team for one month.
ü $2,000 sponsors an entire mobile health unit for a week’s outreach mission.
Every contribution ensures that mothers and children receive care, comfort, and a chance to thrive.
Monitoring & Reporting
ü Regular quarterly field visits and data verification by NODRO regional teams.
ü Monthly health service reports submitted to GlobalGiving.
ü Beneficiary feedback sessions held after each outreach cycle.
ü Health impact surveys to measure improvement in maternal and child outcomes.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
ü 3,000+ medical consultations completed
ü 1,000+ children vaccinated
ü 200+ safe births assisted
ü 90% satisfaction rate among beneficiaries
Together for Health, Hope, and Humanity
We extend our sincere gratitude to our donors, partners, and the GlobalGiving community for their continued support. Your generosity is not just delivering medicine — it’s delivering life, dignity, and resilience to women and children who have endured unimaginable hardship.
Together, we heal communities — one mother, one child, one village at a time.
With gratitude,
Mrs. Woderyelesh Ashebir Belay
