2019 was a very huge year for Metroball Youth Outreach (MYO) and all of our programs. In 2019 Metroball was able to merge and/or partner with several other great organizations that were able to enhance our youth services and expand our reach among the youth in the greater Washington Dc area. These partnerships solidified MYO as the Largest Youth Basketball Organization in the Washington DC area. With over 17 active youth basketball teams, the largest youth summer streetball league, and a dedicated quality staff (coaches, mentors, teachers, and trainers), Metroball has set the standard for our programs as we move forward into the our 20th year of existence. 2020 will mark the 20th year of our organization serving youth. We plan on having many special events leading up to our main event, the 20th Annual New York Ave Classic Summer Youth Streetball League (June – August 2020).

The 19th Annual New York Ave Classic was spectacular and through some generous donations, we were able to provide some school supplies for the youth including Book Bags for many of the winning teams. All youth walked away with something and made this event very special.

Metroball DC AAU teams competed very hard this whole year and were able to become ranked among the top teams in the country. This was our first year with our top teams competing on the Adidas Silver Gauntlet and Jr. Gauntlet Circuits. As underdogs, our teams were able to win several of these top events all year showing that we have now arrived on the big stage. The success of this year has come with many offers from Colleges and Universities for several of our youth. These youth will have the opportunity to continue their education at some top Universities while playing Basketball.

With the rapid growth of our organization, we are dependent more than ever from donations to maintain our levels of service and to keep the costs low or completely free for our youth participants. In addition, we are looking for investors to help us build our own Athletic Facility and Prep School. We already have a location and building. We are seeking help to make this project a reality in 2020.

So the future looks bright for Metroball and with continued support, we will continue to grow and offer as many opportunities to youth well into the new year.

The Metroball New York Ave Classic Youth Streetball League has always been FREE for all youth since 2000! (19 YEARS)!

This event keeps the youth busy during the summer months and deters deviant behavior. This year is especially important because of the recent violence in DC. A former Summer Youth Participant was murdered two weeks ago and another nighborhood youth was also murdered along with his father.  Outlets like ours help the youth interact in a positive way during the summer months.  The past few weeks have been tough, but the 19th Annual New York Ave Classic kept rolling on!!

This year we saw the largest amount of teams and youth that have ever participated in recent years.  The most special thing this summer was to see many former participants coaching and helping the younger youth that are in the program now.  This has really helped our growth.  The final weekend is coming up on August 3rd and we will crown 2019 Champions in each division.  We will send another update as soon as the weekend is over.

March starts the beginning of our New Program Season.  With the overwhelming success of last year's projects, we have received such a large demand for more programs and initiatives this year.  Our enrollment had doubled and continues to rise each day.  We are currently looking to find our own facility to fund operate our program.  This is why your donation is extrmely valuable to us and the youth we serve.

We have spent the last 6 months planning for our expected growth during the Spring and Summer of 2019.  Our constant problem has been a lack of adequate funding to support our goals.  GlobalGiving has given us the platform to do that and with generous donations from people like you, we will achieve our goals.

On Saturday, August 4th 2018, the 18th Annual Metroball New York Ave Classic held the playoffs and finals for all divisions and teams competing in the 2018 New York Ave Classic Streetball League. The day was hot but every team came out ready to play hard.  As in the past, the playoffs did not disappoint.  There were plenty of upsets and some very close games. A new twist this year were the Fidget Spinner Medals for 1st and 2nd place teams.

As you can imagine, the playground was crowded from early in the morning to late in the afternoon when we finally crowned all of our champions.  As this year came to a close, we have already began looking forward to the 2019 New York Ave Classic.  Early planning and funding will help make next year's event successful as the prior 18 years have been.

Metroball Youth Outreach would like to thank all of our donors for making this year the best year to date and a wonderful experience for all of the youth and coaches that participated.  We are already accepting donartions for next year's event.

On Saturday, June 16th the 18th Annual Mereoball New York Ave Youth streetball League kicked off as scheduled!  This was a very exciting thing because we up until as late as 2 days before the scheduled kick off, we didn't know if we were going to have to cancel the entire event.  Shoe City came through for us at the 11th hour with the jerseys and Unitees Screen printing rushed the printing and numbering with help from Metroball staff.  We were able to get most of the younger kids jerseys completed so we could at least start the event.  The older youth will begin playing next weekend.

It was beautiful weather and the atmosphere was great to make it a beautiful event.  Games began @11:30am with youth as young as 8 yrs old playing as hard as they could.  DC Public Libraries donated all sorts of books (mostly children books) that were on display to give away to parents and kids.  by 2pm, more than 250 books were given out to prospective readers.  It was a festive affair that had everyone engaged.  All though the older youth weren't playing this week, they came out to either coach or support the younger youth.  The event has continued the tradition to serve it's purpose.  Uniting youth and promoting healthy play!

This was only Week 1.  We have 9 more weeks to go!!  The kick off was a success.  Check out pictures from this past weekend.
