Mentorship Sparks Update

By Kathy Thomas | Director of Operations

Project: Mentorship Sparks STEM Futures
Report Date: April 2026

Dear supporters,

Thank you for following our work to expand mentorship, representation, and belonging in STEM for girls and all youth. While this project has not yet received donations, NGCP continues to strengthen the national ecosystem of mentors and role models who help young people see themselves in STEM. Our 2025 Annual Report, released in March 2026 (Women's History Month), highlights the collaborations, educator trainings, and community partnerships that form the foundation of this project’s goals.

Mentorship remains one of the most powerful drivers of persistence in STEM, especially for youth who have historically been excluded from these fields. Throughout 2025, NGCP supported educators and program leaders with researchbased resources, professional development, and connections to diverse STEM role models. These efforts help ensure that young people encounter mentors who reflect their identities, experiences, and aspirations, an essential ingredient in building confidence and longterm engagement.

As we look ahead, we are preparing new opportunities for educators and community partners to integrate mentorship into their programming. This includes expanding access to our resource library, strengthening partnerships across states, and uplifting stories of youth whose STEM journeys were shaped by supportive adults. These activities directly advance the vision behind this project: sparking curiosity, confidence, and a sense of belonging through meaningful mentorship.

Thank you for being part of this work and for believing in the importance of representation and connection in STEM. We look forward to sharing continued progress as this project grows.
