Final report 1/1/17
Nairobi Kenya
Dear Friends,
I want to sincerely thank you for your support and contributions over these last 4 years. Our mentoring program has helped many young women to not only acquire life skills but to teach them to be trainers to other young women in their villages. As you know, our program consisted of putting the girls through two months of training at Solidarity for the Advancement of Womens’ Agenda (SAWA) offices. The activities were both outdoor and indoor and meant to propel individual growth and interaction abilities with other members of the society. Courses included topics in relationships, health and hygiene, careers, business manners, income generating activities and spirituality.
We have keenly followed these pioneers of the program to find out what they are doing in their lives. I have visited several of these girls to see how they are doing. It is gratifying to see that they have gained confidence and skills as well as the ripple effect of other girls benefitting from the training they have been given by our students of this mentoring program.
We have trained so many girls now that the program can proceed without further funds. The concept of mentorship is now being understood, and many women are volunteering to take the role. The girls will now become the mentors to younger girls. When we started, very few were offering because they did not know what is expected, but currently, I am happy to report that we have many girls offering to take on this role.
With my sincere gratitude for your support in this effort to improve the opportunities for young girls.
