Our team has delivered mental health training to local healthworkers and female community health volunteers in the area of Mustang, Nepal. These communities have no access to mental health support and so training local healthworkers will bring a support system and a long-term solution to the lack of mental health professionals in this region.
Many women and girls are affected by mental health issues either by experiencing mental health problems themselves or by having to give up school or work to take care of family members with mental health issues.
Upskilling local female health workers with mental health skills helps to encourage women to step forward and seek help. It also helps to break down the huge levels of stigma that surrounds mental health in this part of the world.
