After the progress we made in Mustang last year, our team has been building on that work while also reaching more people across Nepal.
At the start of this year, we spent time supporting the Mental Hospital Lagankhel - Nepal’s only state-run hospital for people living with mental illness. We’ve been working alongside nurses to help create a calmer, more respectful and supportive environment for patients. This has included practical training on how to handle difficult situations safely, as well as encouraging a more compassionate, person-centred approach to care. We’ve also introduced a mentorship programme, where experienced staff support newer team members to build their skills and confidence.
At the same time, our work in Mustang continues. Together with Jomsom Hospital, we are helping train and recruit a dedicated mental health nurse. This person will not only support patients at the hospital but also work with local health workers to reach people in remote communities who might otherwise have no access to care.
By strengthening support both in hospitals and out in communities, we’re helping more people get the care they need, closer to home.
Thank you for being part of this journey.
