Our team of mental health professionals in Nepal has recently visited the remote region of Mustang for the second time, to deliver training to local health workers and female community health volunteers. This is a step towards creating a long-term sustainable solution to the lack of mental health support in this region.
The team delivered mental health awareness workshops with local stakeholders including local teachers from schools in the area, local faith healers and local government/leaders. The response was very positive and all people taking part in the workshops recognised the importance of providing mental health support. Initial training providing to Female Community Health Volunteers will enable them to look out for people experiencing mental health issues whilst they are carrying out their home visits and refer them to the health post when our team is able to return and deliver a free walk-in mental health clinic.
