In remote areas of Bali, many people with severe mental illness are still shackled or isolated due to stigma and lack of access to care. This 24-month project aims to restore their dignity and provide long-term recovery through medical treatment, counseling, and family education in Singaraja and Karangasem districts. With a total budget of USD 45,000, the project will reach 500-750 people with mental illness and support 2,000-3,000 family members, while raising awareness among 50,000+ community
Mental illness represents a critical public health challenge in Bali with significant social, economic, and health implications. Cultural stigma, limited access to services, and inadequate community support create barriers to effective treatment.
Comprehensive, culturally-sensitive community-based interventions to improve mental health outcomes through education, capacity building, and service integration.
Our project combines treatment access, disease prevention, and community education to create lasting recovery for people with mental illness and their families. We directly help 500-750 individuals with medication, counseling, and home-based care, while empowering 2,000-3,000 caregivers through training and emotional support. Overall, this project will impact 50,000+ community members by reducing stigma and promoting understanding that mental illness is a medical, not moral, issue.
