ECCA conducted orientation on menstruation, its management and the use of washable reusable sanitary pads for the Women Groups and Female Community Health Volunteers of Malu village, Tamakoshi Rural Municipality ward no. 4, Dolakha (around 150 km north of Kathmandu in central Nepal). To ensure the participation of women from every cluster of ward no. 4, the orientation was conducted at 3 different venues. Along with the orientation, to promote improved reusable sanitary pads among community females, 3 sets of washable reusable sanitary pads were distributed to each menstruating female member of that village. Altogether 499 sets of washable reusable sanitary pads were distributed through door-to-door program by the members of women groups who attended the orientation program. They also shared their knowledge on menstrual hygiene management while distributing the pads. Additionally, leaflets in local language with information about menstrual hygiene management were also provided.
Mrs. Kalpana, President of Golmeshwor Women Group, stated “lack of information about menstruation leads to damaging misconceptions and discrimination, and can cause women to face various challenges. This kind of support from ECCA will help in spreading menstrual hygiene management education throughout the community”.
We thank you for the support.
