The local youth counselors of Jhapa (in East Nepal) along with the child club of Janajyoti Basic School and Hari Basic School of Jhapa came together to celebrate Menstrual Hygiene Day on 28th May with an orientation program on Menstrual Hygiene Management in each of these schools. The mothers of the school students were invited for the orientation program. Altogether 29 and 33 mothers participated in Janajyoti Basic School and Hari Basic School respectively and the child club also distributed the reusable sanitary pads supported by ECCA to each mother for their personal use. Leaflets in local language with information about menstrual hygiene management were also provided.
Mrs. Rampyari, teacher of Hari Basic School, stated that family, mainly the mother, has the most important role in transferring menstrual hygiene management education to girls and this kind of interaction between school girls and mothers can be very helpful.
