Progress report

By Afor Rene | Project Leader

Dear Valued Supporters, Thank you for your continued support and belief in our mission. Your encouragement continues to inspire our commitment to improving menstrual health and environmental hygiene for vulnerable girls and communities in Cameron. As we conclude Quarter 5 of the project, we are pleased to share the progress made despite ongoing funding constraints. While we continue to seek full project financing, our team and volunteers have remained actively engaged in preparation, advocacy, and community mobilisation to ensure the successful implementation of the project.

Quarter 5 highlights

During this reporting period, our team strengthened partnerships and expanded community outreach efforts by:

  • Conducting stakeholder meetings with community leaders, school administrators, and local stakeholders to reinforce collaboration and prepare for future project implementation.
  • Continuing mentorship and awareness sessions with adolescent girls on safe menstrual hygiene management, body awareness, and personal dignity.
  • Engaging volunteers in sensitisation activities focused on reducing stigma surrounding menstruation and promoting healthy hygiene practices.
  • Enhanced needs assessment to scale and reach more schools in high need of improved WASH and menstrual hygiene services.
  • Although resources remain limited, these activities have helped maintain momentum and strengthen trust within the communities we serve. Why this project matters Girls in underserved communities continue to face significant challenges during menstruation, including:
  • Missing approximately 3–5 days of school every month due to lack of menstrual products.
  • Increased exposure to infections and health risks from unhygienic menstrual materials and poor WASH facilities.
  • Social stigma, shame, and isolation associated with menstruation.
  • Reduced academic participation and confidence.

Without sustained intervention, these challenges continue to limit the opportunities and potential of many young girls.

With adequate funding, the project will continue to support girls and schools through:

  • Distribution of environmentally friendly, reusable sanitary pads that can last up to three years.
  • Menstrual health and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) education workshops for adolescent girls.
  • WASH and environmental hygiene awareness campaigns and sanitation facility improvement in rural schools.
  • Capacity building for teachers and community stakeholders to support menstrual health management in schools. As we move forward into the next phase of the project, our focus remains on strengthening partnerships, mobilising resources, and expanding outreach activities to ensure girls can safely and confidently manage menstruation without missing educational opportunities.

We invite you to continue following and supporting this important initiative through our project page: https://www.globalgiving.org/projects/menstrual-health-and-environmental-hygiene/ Your support and belief in our mission continue to sustain this work and bring hope to the girls and communities we serve. With gratitude, Afor Rene Aza’ah Executive Director Local Initiative for Sustainable Development (LISUDEV)
