She was born 8 months after normal delivery, weighing 2,700 kg. and size 46 cm. A few days after birth the doctor informed the parents that Luciana had Down syndrome, with this news the parents were very shocked.
Days later Luciana had difficulty breathing and the parents took her to the pediatrician who referred them to a cardiologist, who performed an electrocardiogram to learn how her heart was working, unfortunately they detected a murmur and two open veins, this warranted an urgent operation, it cannot be done due to Luciana's low weight. Since then, she has been medicated to prevent fluid from entering the lungs and they had to wait eight months to see if she gained weight so that she could perform the surgery.
When Luciana was 1 year old she became ill with the flu and a severe cough, she was rushed to the hospital and hospitalized for a month. During this period, he suffered seizures that were not perceived by medical personnel. Since then he lost movement of his right arm and leg.
Despite these events in Luciana's health, she was already ready for the operation, the cardiologist recommended that she be operated on soon. But this operation was very expensive, approximately two thousand dollars, and the family did not have this amount. They sought help from foundations, charities without getting help.
The family was devastated by the situation. Fortunately, and when they least expected it, a donor helped them with the money necessary for Luciana's operation in Argentina. After her parents prepared all the necessary documentation, Luciana, aged one year and three months, went to Argentina for her operation. The donor's support also included a stay for two months in this country of Luciana's parents, enough time for the entire process of the operation, which was carried out successfully. During the process of analysis and medical examinations, Luciana was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and since then she has been treating this condition until today.
Back in Bolivia Luciana needed physical therapy care to rehabilitate her right arm and leg, which were affected by the seizures. This was very difficult because Luciana's mother had to take care of two more small children. Fortunately, through a doctor, the family met TUKUY PACHA. The technical staff of this institution carried out a complete evaluation of Luciana and with a coordinated work with the physiotherapist and the promoter of the TUKUY PACHA foundation, Luciana receives rehabilitation at her home. In addition, he was helped with medications to treat hypothyroidism. Since then Luciana has evolved favorably, managing to crawl and stand up on her own. Dora, Luciana's mother, mentioned being very grateful to TUKUY PACHA for all the work they have done with their daughter.
