CDS Nyakira, a local clinic in Kanyosha, Burundi, serves residents of the commune. It is one of the few clinics in the area that provide leniency in repaying medical debt. Patients are allowed to get treatment and afterward have the option of paying immediate payment options or debt forgiveness. Beauty out of Dust wants to provide medical debt relief to families and individuals who demonstrate financial hardship clear their portions of medical debt to CDS Nyakira.
In Burundi, there is a healthcare crisis. Most of the country's citizens are farmers or unskilled laborers, which makes the majority of the population prone to treatable illnesses but less likely to obtain medical services due to a lack of money or fear of having overwhelming health care debt.
This project will solve the problem in two ways; it allows to funnel of money into CDS to better services and equipment for the patients. Secondly, clearing the medical debts of families and individuals will help families with no means of payment continue receiving treatment through CDS and improve their overall health. E.g., Pregnant women can continue to receive prenatal treatments, and children are protected through vaccines and other means of prevention.
This initiative allows CDS to continue opening doors for everyone. A large number of individuals refuse to seek professional medical help and therefore live with illnesses that could potentially turn terminal. CDS provides early treatments and preventions for everyday issues and even refers patients if the clinic cannot handle a medical problem. Clearing the debts of high-risk and struggling families allows them to continue returning to CDS Nyakira and for CDS to keep doors open.
