Our project consists of direct intervention of pediatric surgeons and other specialties, from the two best hospitals in Spain that travel to Equatorial Guinea to care for children and their families, who in other circumstances could not access adequate medical care. They are two teams of volunteer doctors who perform medical consultations and surgical interventions. We want to obtain financing to pay for some of the medical material they will use.
In Equatorial Guinea, the infrastructures are deteriorating in addition to lack of public services such as lack of electricity, drinking water, drainage system, etc. This situation causes diseases to spread and the health problem to increase and worsen. The conditions of poverty and the widespread belief in traditional medicine prevent them from attending health centers properly and prefer to go to healers (traditional doctors) and practice self-medication.
We have a Health Center that cares for anyone who requires their services, whether children, adults, pregnant women, etc., with an average of 40 people per day. The population comes from the entire Continental Region, as well as people from the interior of the country attracted by the quality of services, a fact that increases when Spanish medical cooperation arrives, which travels annually to collaborate in the SOS Health Center, attracting people from the insular zone of the country.
During all the years carrying out this intervention, we have attended 15,000 people and aspire to serve more children and their families every year. In this way we want to contribute to improving the health of the children of Bata (Equatorial Guinea), through specialized medical and / or surgical treatment to children of the SOS Children's Village of Bata, to the children population not dependent on the SOS Children's Village of Bata and the children's population of the community.
