Challenge

The truly poor have no access to conventional loans and borrowing because they have no collateral and no credit history. Most do not have a Bank account.

Solution

The money has to be used to either start a small business or enhance an existing one. One woman has started a small goods store. Another has bought two blenders to start a juice stand. Another to invest dry goods into her already existing stall.

Long-Term Impact

Mayan Families Micro-Finance/Micro-Loans program was made to address the financial needs of the poor. It has created access to credit enabling the poor to build on their existing skills to earn a better income in each cycle of loans.
