I was absolutely blown away by ‘Maya the Musical’ this weekend. The production exceeded my (already high) expectations in every possible way, and it was really moving to see what that very talented group of children was able to accomplish.

It was the best show I have seen in India performed by children. If I had not known, there is no way I would have believed that these children come from underprivileged backgrounds. Their accents, their English, their dancing (especially Taksh) – were just superb! The costumes were fantastic, and the dancing was extremely synchronized, well-choreographed and cleanly executed. The kids played so many roles and just sparkled with energy. While I loved the antics of Indigo and the monkeys dancing, my absolute favorite was Skaa. That girl was fantastic – she was in role the entire time – even as she “slept” in the second act. I have always admired “Teach For India” from afar, but after this show, I feel humbled by the children and teachers’ dedication to teaching them and enriching their lives.
