Hi there!
Many thanks for your donations towards the Maya Musical.
Your support means a lot to us and makes an immense difference in the lives of our students – it is because of your generous donations that our kids can continue their life-changing journey towards overcoming demographical barriers and realizing their full potential.
In this report, our Recruitment Manager Ankana Sheth would like to address a few words to you, describing how she experienced the development our students have gone through over the past 18 months of rehearsing for Maya.
Maya is a journey of discovering and exploring potential in all our children. It is a journey of finding your purpose and truly knowing who you are. Through an incredible musical put together by Teach For India students and music composed by Broadway, Maya shows us what is possible if we believe in ourselves and our children.
Our local cast in Mumbai has been working relentlessly for the past four months to ensure that they are pushing the bar of excellence and gearing up for an excellent performance this November. Our musical showcases that a child's demographics do not determine their destiny and we must offer equal opportunities to all our children.
The cast in Mumbai has encompassed three Maya values of courage, compassion and wisdom, integrating it into the day-to-day lives of our kids. We have seen our students grow ten-folds over the four months: they are confident, driven and passionate individuals. They are focusing more on their work in school, becoming more kind and gentle with others and gaining exposure to different leaders from various sectors.
Maya has been a tremendous learning experience for me as well - I have gained more from my kids and have grown as an individual. Maya promises to be a show that brings together joy, love, happiness and potential - you cannot miss it.
To share with you what this show means to our kids, here is a personal note from Priya*, who will be performing at the musical.
We’re so grateful to you for supporting our show, which we promise will be extraordinary. Maya is not just a musical for me but has inspired a life changing path. Being a part of Maya is the greatest part of my life and I feel so lucky to have this opportunity.
Maya finds her light and lets it shine. Through this experience of participating in Maya we have also been able to find our light and let it shine as bright as the brightest star.
Coming to Maya is more than just showing up for rehearsals. It is the time when I’m treasuring new and important lessons of life which will make me a better person. In Maya’s journey, she shows the nature of courage, compassion and wisdom and this is reflecting my own journey as well. It has influenced me to apply these values to my own life.
This play is where I feel most comfortable, where I feel a part of a family that has so much trust, care and love for each other.
As our opening night approaches on 31st Oct 2014, we can hardly contain our excitement for sharing what we have learned and the light that shines through the heart of our incredible musical.
Thank you so much for supporting kids like us…we hope you’ll enjoy the show.

We would also like to inform you that October 15th marks Global Giving’s Bonus Day. Global Giving will be matching all funds that Teach For India raises for the Maya Musical (by 30%). We hope to raise enough funds for Maya, but without your help this won’t be possible! We urge you to donate & spread the word!
