Education can change the world...!

By Harrison Dax Nash | Charity Director / Project Leader

Our young people at their very own Scouts camp!
Our young people at their very own Scouts camp!

Let's remind ourselves of the words of Nelson Mandela stating that "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world".

This is one of the most quoted statements of Mandela but it can sometimes be queried whether his wisdom does prevail within South Africa,

We have seen recently how education is the biggest item within South Africa's national budget and this is help the drive towards addressing the inequalities that continue to exist,

Yet we have been thrilled with the progress of the children in care of our youth centre. We've seen a number of kids trimuph as we have come into prize-giving season at the schools they attend.

We had young people achieve merit awards, certificates and trophies to mark their academic progress including the best academic achiever in Grade 1! This is where we can see our programs are working from Early Childhood Development onwards,

Another young boy has been given a special school placement for 2018 to address his backlog and needs. A new girl admitted this year has also gained a space at a remedial school where she will recieve speech therapy, occupational therapy and remedial intervention as part of the curriculum. We work hard to secure such opportunities to ensure our children can reach their full potential!

But what it is also so positive is the extra curricular activity we are able to arrange for our kids to take part in. Recently they were able to hold a Scouts survival camp on the grounds here at our youth centre which was a wonderful team-building skill-building weekend for the 8 teenagers taking part.

Another inspiring event was the A21 Walk for Freedom Port Elizabeth initiative where we joined the fight against human trafficking and salvery in a silent awareness building campaign that united the people of the city!

But now we need your support. We're looking at a number of 6 new children joining our youth centre for this new year! As such you can just imagine how we will need to ensure ALL of their needs are in place! Let's open the doors for them for schooling...and let brighter futures be possible for more young people who, through no fault of their own, are admitted into residential care

Please share, post, re-tweet and most important...donate if you can! As we get to the Christmas period this means more than anything...!
