As we come towards the last terms of the year we are still hopeful that we can receive the support needed for our children to continue with their access to schooling.
We reported in our last report our oldest boy who managed to graduate with his higher certificate in business management.
What a brilliant moment to be able to attend his graduation and celebrate in his success!
As we have other children in further education and training currently it is wonderful to see the rewards emerging from the years that have been invested in the young people at the centre.
This is also a positive reflection on the services we offer especially when you consider the fact that a recent survey by PPS Student Confidence Index in South Africa showed that less than half of those surveyed felt prepared for the transition to higher education institutions.
Further to this the latest report by the Department of Higher Education also showed that 47.9% of university students do not complete their degrees.
So whilst we have a residential program that caters for young people making the transition into adulthood we also believe in the power of early intervention which is where the funding raised goes so far into ensuring the vulnerable children we support can get the holistic services they desperately need.
It was a real pleasure that Sibulele Mancayi, South Africa Field Volunteer for GlobalGiving, could come and visit me at the project this month, meet the children and see what we do. This followed on with excellent support on the most recent “Bonus Day” which coincided with “Mandela Day” here in the country. Thanks SO MUCH to all who donated!
Please however know that we are very dependent on regular and recurrent donations and so those of you who can support us further on reading this will be truly appreciated. We always say to spread the word but it really does help to raise awareness if you can.
I am also going to leave you with the positive news of our oldest girl who had her special Matric Farewell Prom Night and was truly able to look a million dollars thanks to the sponsorship we could arrange. This is such a great example of brighter futures being made possible.
