Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world, said Nelson Mandela.
As envisioned by the world acclaimed icon Mandela, this is what we need for South Africa's youth to aspire to a much higher level. It is the catalyst to their future success!
As we recieved the results of the first term's reports it was so positive to see the tremendous progress of certain children. One of our girls in Grade 8 (first year of high school) achieved the highest maths mark for the whole year!
And we are also planning ahead promissingly for the young people finishing school in the coming years that may stay on to study further.
After recently having aptitude/careers assessment tests carried out it is clear that we can make the pathway for a number of further-study & even university options for our youngsters but of course we need to ensure the support and finances are in place!
The positive news was that our oldest young man recently completed his higher certificate in business management at NQF Level 5 (post high school/matric) and is now with a vision to study even further as he works towards a degree level qualification.
But what is also very positive when it comes to our project is that we also identify practical and trade options for those young people with intellecutal disabilities that may not cope in mainstream schooling. Skills have been developed in everything from welding, to woodwork, to hairdressing and catering!
We are doing are best in a country where more than 600,000 children with disabilities are out of school to overcome systemic barriers to education knowing that unequal access is one of the most evident forms of discrimination.
It is only with your support however that we can make all these successes possible. So if you're reading this please take action if you can - whether that be by sharing this post, motivating others to support or making a donation yourself - it will make the world of difference...!
PS: To round off. We recently celebrated Freedom Day wirh the children here. As we remember the words of Nelson Mandela - "It always seems impossible until it's done" - here is a photo of our boys spelling out the word in all it's glory. Because of course...life is always about balance :-)
