Helping to make a MASSIVE and DIRECT difference!!!

By Harrison Dax Nash | Project Leader / Charity Director

Ensuring education's on track for our youngest boy
Ensuring education's on track for our youngest boy

Thank you first and foremost for the on-going support we have received from yourselves as committed followers of our project.

It really means a lot to us that many of you have made numerous donations to the cause…and let me assure you of the fantastic difference this is making!

In terms of education in South Africa, President Jacob Zuma has made his vision clear – addressing a Community Development Workers conference this month he stated that the government are serious about turning schools into centres of excellence, elevating education to its rightful place in society and being seen as an essential service.

He stated: “The less citizens of a country are educated, the less the development. The more citizens (are) educated, the more developed (a country is).”

Yet this comes at a time where 12,000 learners in the Eastern Cape (where our project operates) had their school placed under lock down – parents taking action against the under-funded schools leaving classes of up to 90 pupils in unsafe environments, with teachers refusing to work under such conditions.

Three of our older boys were affected by a temporary closure of their school, at a time where their studies remain central to their future development!

I took the opportunity to take them to a careers exhibition, where their ambitions to do social work, graphic design and become a pilot really was such music to the ears…and it is of course our vision that with the right financial support we can help uplift the young people in our care and try our best to make these dreams a reality.

Of course where we have the right financial backing, the children will not have to sit in a school that suffers these problems, and this is one of numerous reasons why it has been a huge blessing for us to be included in GlobalGiving UK’s education appeal.

Since January we have been thankful to receive over £800 as part of this campaign! As a small charity this support makes a MASSIVE and DIRECT difference to us, being 13% of what is needed for our whole project! And with just over £2000 to go to reach our ultimate aim, we are hopeful that this will give us the kick start we need to complete our goal in 2013!

Please share, send and tweet the word around…let’s see what we can achieve if we ALL work together!
