This has been another busy period for us, specifically with our children and young people at our Maranatha-Siyakatala Child & Youth Care Centre here in Ggeberha, Eastern Cape, South Africa!
Currently the 34 children at our residential centre range between 5 and 20 years of age, as well as us looking to support those young adults and care-leavers who are still in need of our assistance.
What has been wonderful to see recently is that we have been able to have a first hand glimpse at some of these successful outcomes. One young man who progressed to diploma level studies in logistics management is now serving in a role as child & youth care worker to help the next generation of youth in care that can follow in his footsteps.
Another one of our girls who left last year and progressed to diploma level studies in hospitality & catering not only works as a Commis Chef at a five star hotel, but also came with the hotel team to do a special outreach for #MandelaDay recently where she helped prepare and serve a meal for all the children, young people and youth team staff.
So this whole month most recently is seen as #MandelaMonth in South Africa, and just this last weekend we took a group of young people from the centre to help participate in a beach clean-up, helping in relation to environmental and costal conservation.
It remains vitally important to instill values of generosity and helping others even in the young people we are supporting now, so that they can pay it forward in the future.
