Summary

Support planting 30000 trees in Kyabondo for anti erosive hedges, ditches & wooden dams to prevent devastating erosions. In rainy season, 3768 people victims of natural disasters-landslides, river floods, rolling stones from hills. Houses, house wares, cattle, crops and fertile soil washed away leaving homeless poor families . They begged to be relocated. Authorities said nowhere to resettle them. Since 2014, CADRE supports their initiatives to stabilize the village for safety and prosperity.

Challenge

Kyabondo village is surrounded by hills. Its 3768 inhabitants suffer from natural disasters in rainy season. Erosions cause landslides, river floods, rolling stones from hills. Houses, house wares, cattle, crops and fertile soil washed away leaving homeless poor families. They asked for relocation but nowhere to resettle them. Since 2014, CADRE asbl supports initiatives to stabilize the village and make it safe and propserous. Nurseries produce seeds for planting prevent further disasters.

Solution

By setting up nurseries to produce seeds to plant for preventing landslides, floods and erosions. Planting 30000 trees for anti erosive hedges, ditches and wooden dams to prevent erosions, rolling stones and protect fertile soil for agriculture. Community awareness ( workshops, messages on radios ,in churches and leaflets) to plant trees and protect them. Impact is stability, safety and prosperity. Rain should not longer scare Kyabondo population.

Long-Term Impact

Problem of floods, erosions and rolling stones will be solved thanks to ditches and wooden dams. Crops, cattle and houses are safe. Stability, safety and prosperity will be restored. Even in rainy season 3768 people will not longer scared. Kyabondo will become once again livable and safe village. Those who fled Kyabondo will return to resettle and enjoy life in the attractive villqge.
