As the holiday season approaches, will you consider giving the gift of a phone call to someone in need? Last April, we launched the TELL Lifeline Toll-Free Pilot Fund to ensure that cost is not a barrier to support. Our call volume increased by over 20%, with many users expressing gratitude for this support. With increases in youth suicides and so many people struggling financially, will you join us in giving a gift of hope and helping everyone make it to the next day.
Since COVID-19, the number of people in Japan struggling financially and with their mental health has increased significantly. Single mothers and students are among the most vulnerable groups, which has seen the suicide rate in youths and women grow. Having access to free crisis support in times of need is essential in helping people not feel alone and in connecting them to resources and support.
In April 2024, TELL launched a Toll-free phone pilot project. The project has been a resounding success, with over 500 more people reaching out for support already this year and expressing their gratitude for the toll-free call. We want to ensure that every day is a toll-free day on the Lifeline and the cost of a call is not a barrier to accessing vital support and connections. Lifelines are a proven essential resource that helps people of all ages and demographics make it to the next day.
Studies have proven that Lifelines effectively reduce imminent risk through collaborative de-escalation and ensuring that care and access to services, resources and support are readily available to anyone 24 hours a day, especially in times of crisis. Having a toll-free phone support will increase the number of people who reach out for support and are connected with services, reducing the number of people and youths in crisis and the suicide rate in Japan.
