Volunteeers Make VIDA's Mission Possible

We thank you for your past and future support as we continue to aid remote regions of Peru impacted by various natural disasters. Developing economies face enormous short and long-term challenges in rebuilding their infrastructure in the aftermath of a natural disaster.  The relief t efforts should not be measured in months but rather decades.

The flooding that has struck Peru over the past three years has devastated the most vulnerable communities in Peru. We work with a variety of hospitals and small clinics - providing hospital beds, exam tables and other much needed equipment and supplies. We partner with Peru’s Ministry of Health and generous transportation and logistics by Otis McAllister Inc.to bring medical aid to benefit thousands of families in the region all year long. An equally important aspect of our mission is the engagement of volunteers in prepping shipments. Without the thousands of volunteers who work with VIDA every year, we would not be able to send this life saving aid.

Thank you for making this unique and impactful medical relief program possible through your donations.

Puente de VIDA Medical Mission
Puente de VIDA Medical Mission

VIDA’s partnership with Peru's Ministry of Health is paying enormous dividends to the hundreds of thousands of people living in communities devastated by the floods. This partnership enables VIDA to expedite customs clearance of containers and leverages the governments transportation infrastructure  to distribute medical equipment and medical supplies to these remote communities.  This partnership is reducing the international shipping costs by 40% and eliminates all costs for shipping inside Peru. This means that your support will help more people than ever before.  This development along with the increase in donations from hospitals across California enables VIDA to ship a record number of containers to Peru in 2018. This is a very important development as the cost of transporting aid to the Sacred Valley, Cuzco as well as other locations not near a port is very high and limits VIDA's capacity to send more aid. In addition, VIDA has been able to conduct Puente de VIDA visits t these remote regions to provide free basic medical care to underserved communities. As this report is being written, there are two containers currently on the water bound for Peru.   Thank you for your continued generosity!

Hospital Beds Give Dignity to Peruvians
Hospital Beds Give Dignity to Peruvians

VIDA thanks GlobalGiving donors for your support! VIDA has just sent two containers carrying nearly $1million in aid in response to the 2017 tragic floods and ongoing healthcare needs in Peru. As reported in previous reports, 300 plus hospitals/clinics were destroyed and the infrastructure remain damaged - roads and bridges washed out and entire communities swept clean and millions still lack access to healthcare.

VIDA is working with our partners and the government to help rebuild the healthcare infrastructure.   The government is donating warehouse space and dedicating transportation resources to transport the aid to the impacted communities and we are ramping up our efforts.  Hospital beds, exam tables and ambulatory supplies is critical to get these hospitals back up and running.

To that end, VIDA’s last two containers have focused on these items, carrying 62 beds, 24 gurneys and 26 exam tables and topped off with walkers, wheelchairs, and crutches as well as a sundry of medical supplies.

We are in the process of securing funding for the next containers and appreciate the support of the Global Giving community!
