Imagine bringing a child into the world in war-torn Ukraine, where the future is uncertain, jobs are scarce, and daily life is filled with challenges. Many men have been called to the front lines to defend their country, leaving families to cope on their own.
This is the reality for Anna. The father of her baby was serving in the Ukrainian armed forces when he went missing. Anna is now caring for her newborn and her young son alone, with no employment and limited support. Because she and her partner were not married, accessing certain benefits and assistance has been particularly difficult.
Alongside the practical challenges, Anna has been carrying an enormous emotional burden. The uncertainty surrounding her partner's disappearance, combined with postnatal depression and the responsibility of caring for two young children, has left her struggling to cope.
Through our local partner, we have been able to support Anna with cognitive behavioural counselling, helping her manage the emotional trauma she is experiencing and create a more stable environment for her children. When we first met her, she was unwell and deeply worried about the future of her family.
Our partner continues to provide regular food parcels, assistance with school-related needs for her son, as well as diapers, baby food, and essential medications. This support is crucial for the family's wellbeing. Just as importantly, it helps strengthen Anna's mental and emotional health, enabling her to continue caring for her children during this difficult time.
Thanks to your generosity, this family can look to the future with hope. Your support helps provide a young boy with moments of normal childhood and gives a baby the essential care needed for a healthy start in life. For Anna, your support has been a lifeline during one of the darkest periods she has ever faced.
Our partner remains in regular contact with the family, monitoring their wellbeing and ensuring that both Anna and her children receive the ongoing support they need.
