Last Quarter of Earthquake Relief Aid in TR Report

By Zeynep Nazl Ozturk | International Relations Junior Officer

Tabii, iste ilk metninizi daha farkl bir sekilde, formal bir dilde Ingilizce'ye çevirdigim versiyon:

On February 6, 2023, a catastrophic earthquake with a magnitude of 7.5 struck Kahramanmaras in southeastern Turkey, affecting nine cities. This disaster was followed by a second powerful earthquake of magnitude 7.7, which occurred nine hours later. According to official sources, over 13.5 million people have been impacted by the earthquakes, with the death toll exceeding 13,000. Additionally, more than 12,000 buildings have either collapsed or suffered significant damage.

Fundraising Objective Our objective is to raise $200,000 to assist the individuals affected by this disaster, with a special focus on supporting those with leukemia and cancer within our foundation’s network. We have currently raised $11,372, leaving a balance of $188,628 to be raised. So far, 63 generous donors have contributed.

Challenges Faced The aftermath of the earthquakes has been made even more difficult by extreme weather conditions, exacerbating the challenges faced by survivors. Many people were affected while they were asleep and are now without adequate clothing or shelter. There is an urgent need for clean drinking water, warm clothing, blankets, food, temporary shelter, and medical supplies.

Our Approach and the Impact of Your Contribution Cancer, already a devastating condition, has been made even more challenging for patients and their families by the earthquake. Your donations are essential in providing both immediate relief and long-term assistance. The funds will be allocated to the following areas:

  • Ongoing treatment costs for cancer patients
  • Temporary housing for displaced families
  • Food and water distribution
  • Winter clothing and essential supplies
  • Other critical needs

Our foundation serves over 90,000 individuals, both children and adults, living with leukemia and cancer, including over 5,000 patients residing in the affected regions, many of whom have lost their homes.

Conclusion To reach our fundraising goal of $200,000 and offer the necessary assistance to those in need, we still require $188,628. Every donation, regardless of its size, will have a profound impact on the lives of those affected by this disaster. Your generosity will allow us to provide vital support and care during this critical time.
