Exciting Updates from LIVES KITCHEN: Internships, New Menus, and More!

By Aya Higa | ProjectLeader

Dear Supporters of "LIVES KITCHEN"

Thank you for your continued support for our food truck "LIVES KITCHEN"!!
We have some good news for you.

Five of our food truck staff with disabilities just finished their two week internship program at a major hotel chain in Tokyo. They went through a process of orientation, choosing their areas of work and two weeks of working from 10:30 ~ 15:30.
An amazing experience for them, as well as, one step closer to employment!!
The areas of work included kitchen (cutting foor), executive lounge (folding napkins, etc.), cafe lounge (wiping glasswares & silverwares) and housekeeping.

It was truly heart-warming to see everybody doing their best in a caring environment. The people at the hotel were trying to understand how to support people with disabilities and make the best of their abilities.

The staff were exhausted but came back to the food truck work with confidence and hope. All the volunteers were very happy to hear the progress we have made. We would like to make more internship opportunities for the LIVES KITCHEN staff with other companies to seek possibilities for employment.

This past couple of months, our monthly menu on the food truck was: meatball and rice in April, and Taco rice in May. Meatball is a recipe by Chef Akiyama of Dean & Deluca, and Taco rice is a recipe supported by Chef Yonezawa of an exclusive restaurant "No Code" in Minato-ku, Tokyo. So many people are involved to make this project successful!!

And mostly, we cannot thank you enough for keeping us moving forward in spreading awareness and expanding our network to help us create a society that is truly inclusive.

When you see the staff working hard, learning their skills, and working with smiles on their faces, us volunteers feel that this project is priceless and meaningful, and we want to share our joy with you. Thank you so so much for your support.

In our next report, we would like to convey you some words from our staff!!
Stay tuned.
