Bread of Life, the project, will provide skills training and seed grants for 20 widows to gain lasting income opportunities. These widows have lost the breadwinners of their families through armed conflict. This project restores a sense of dignity and self-worth by providing widows and displaced people with the means to feed themselves and their families, empowering them to regain control over their lives and circumstances.
Unemployment and poverty are already at alarming rates in Nigeria. Some of the most disadvantaged economically are widows and orphans, especially those who are victims of armed conflict. Hundreds of such widows reside in Miango, a community in Nigeria where a good number of people, mainly women and children, have been displaced as a result of armed conflict from Fulani jihadists.
Our project, Bread of Life, runs a series of trainings for selected widows on skills such as Baking & Pastry Arts, Hairstyling, Personal Care Products Making, Event Catering, Tailoring & Fashion Design, Hairstyling, etc. The widows will also be granted seed money and raw materials to start a trade or expand their existing trade.
As widows acquire livelihood skills, they pass on their knowledge to their children or other community members, creating a ripple effect of empowerment and skill development. The Bread of Life Project goes beyond just economic benefits. It positively impacts their psychological well-being, community dynamics, and social fabric. It is an investment in building stronger, more resilient communities.
