Sometimes it's just necessary to just stop - take a long breath -  sit back and look at what you've achieved and consider what still needs to be achieved in order to reach your goal.

This is the situation with the construction of the next classroom at the Live and Learn in Kenya Education Center.

Our construction plans for the Information Technology lab have been forced to pause for the time being. Covid 19 has thrown us off balance and we are wracking our brains trying to keep up with the ongoing costs of the education center, of paying all of the school, college, and university fees, paying our staff and teachers, and feeding the children. It would be one of those wonderful - out of the blue - acts of kindness to receive the funds to complete the construction of the next classroom. At least the base is finished.

It may take a while - we believe that we can - so we will! :)

Asante sana - thank you to all who have been supporting our word. Without our wonderful and generous supporters, we would never get anywhere!

What it Was - and What it is NOW!

Finally - one classroom/workshop has been completed at the Live and Learn in Kenya Education Center Career Center! Furniture is being built for it at the moment. We received a donation for the furniture just recently. This classroom/workshop will be our tailoring classroom. Live and Learn in Kenya youths will be able to learn the tailoring trade - and at the same time be sewing uniforms for our school children as well as dresses, shirts, and shorts that sponsors have sewn for their sponsored children as gifts. It is a HUGE step towards the future for many, many young people.

Not everyone is able to go on to higher education - and we need to accommodate them as well as possible at the Live and Learn in Kenya Education Center in Nakuru, Kenya.

Now that this classroom has been built, nearly furnished, and will be moved into very soon - our next project is getting classroom/workshop number two built and furnished. It isn't certain yet which trade will be taught there - either auto mechanics, computer (IT), electrician, or carpentry. But we do know that we will work hard to raise the funds to build it - and your support is essential!

Asante Sana - thank you so much.

Little by little - step by step - donation by donation - the first classroom of the Live and Learn in Kenya Career Center is being built and we are getting closer and closer to finishing it.

With a little help from our friends, we will be able to have the first classroom construction finished, furnished, and moved into by the youths who are desperately wanting to learn how to be a tailor. We already have a group of young women sewing uniforms and ordered clothing for our Live and Learn in Kenya Int'l children.

We still need flooring, a ceiling, sink, shelves, chairs, tables - and of course sewing machines, tools, and fabric.

We are hoping to have it finished by the end of April so that we can get to work on the next classroom - a computer lab!

ASANTE SANA - THANK YOU SO MUCH!

The beginning of the LLK Vocational College
The beginning of the LLK Vocational College

The beginning of the construction of the Live and Learn in Kenya Vocational Training Center has begun! At the moment there is a construction pause because we have run out of funds. We cannot go into debt with the construction, so we have agreed with the construction company to "Build as we fund" - meaning that as donations come in, they will build phase for phase until the college is built and ready to move into.

It will be the most costly construction at the Live and Learn in Kenya Education Center so far. Not only will it be a 2-story building, but we also have to furnish the classrooms and provide relatively expensive tools and equipment for eight different trades: carpenters, welders, IT specialists, office personnel, mechanics, hairdressers, tailors - and one more that hasn't been decided upon yet.

But the beginning is there - all the way up to the ceiling of phase one.

Let's move on to the next phases!

Your donation will be so very appreciated.

Asante Sana - thank you so much

Now that the elementary school - grades 1 through 8 - has been built and the kindergarten has been built - and the modern kitchen with its fabulous dining / multi-purpose hall has been built - and last but not least, the administration building with its offices for the project manager and social workers, day health clinic and library has been built - What's next?

Well, not everybody has the capacity to go to high school and university.  Most of the children on the Live and Learn in Kenya International program graduate from 8th grade and then go on to learn a trade. It is not always easy to find the right school for the right child. Some of the schools just aren't what they are supposed to be and the youth ends up with a certificate of completion, but without the full knowledge of the trade, he or she has spent the past 2 or 3 years learning. So we are taking it upon ourselves once again to make sure that this is changed by building our own vocational training college.

We began construction 4 weeks ago. The construction is coming along nicely, but we are still not certain of the number of classrooms we should build. Our original plan was to build 4 classrooms/workshops for tailors, hairdressers, mechanics, and IT. But the more we consider the future, the more necessary it seems to consider a second floor so that we can also train welders and carpenters and perhaps two other trades. Not only would we be able to train more youths to be able to stand on their own feet and one day be able to feed, clothe and educate their own children - we see the trade school as a future income for the Live and Learn in Kenya Education Center. People will be able to come to our school to have their cars repaired and painted, have furniture built, clothing sewn, their hair done and much more - and the income from that will go towards the upkeep of the Center!

But it is very expensive and we'll need all the support we can get to make this LLK dream come true. But 2021 is going to be a good year!

Let the magic begin :)
