In many remote rural villages in Ghana (and similar low-income settings), parents often are uneducated and may not have been taught childcare practices or how to stimulate early learning at home. These deficits in early childhood care and education lead to poor school readiness, weaker subsequent educational outcomes, poorer health and perpetuate cycles of poverty. We emphasise that early years (under age 5) represent a critical period for brain development, social/emotional/cognitive foundations, and that investing here has long-term returns.
Why Early Years Education Matters
We have built 4 preschools for under-4s and 5 kindergartens and directly runs 3 of the preschools. Abenta, Aboabo, Anamenampa, Gboloo Kofi, Morso, Obom.
Children engage in play with a variety of games that develop cognitive, language and socio-emotional skills. Health & hygiene are integrated into sessions (e.g., hand-washing, general health awareness).
We also have feeding programme to support attendance and nutrition for the youngest children. We emphasises local leadership: the Ghana-registered entity is run by former beneficiaries; staff are drawn from local communities and projects are designed “from the ground up” by the people they impact.
Our early childhood education programmes represent a well-targeted and strategically important investment in rural Ghana’s children—addressing a foundational phase of development that can yield lifelong benefits. Through preschools, kindergartens, nutrition/feeding support, play-based and health-integrated activities, and a community-led approach We are tackling one of the root causes of educational disadvantage. Ongoing monitoring, local capacity building, and ensuring long-term sustainability remain key to maximising the benefits for the children and communities served.
