During the previous months from Feb. – July 2022, the occupied Palestinian territories (oPt), transmission of COVID-19 driven by the Omicron variant continued across the occupied Palestine territory (oPt). The 4th and 5th waves of COVID-19 in the Gaza Strip and West Bank, respectively, started in January and peaked in early February. Overall, oPt reported a significantly higher number of cases during the peak in February, compared to all previous waves. However, the spike in cases showed a fast decline midFebruary onward across oPt.
This could be associated with a significant drop in testing observed in the Gaza Strip and West Bank around the same time. The WHO covid19 situation report (28 Feb. 2022) stated that the overall confirmed cases in Gaza Strip were 245917, and the overall active cases were 12,352 cases with 31.1% positivity rate. Noting that at the same time, the vaccinated cases at Gaza strip up to the report were 657151 with 44.82% among which 476642 were fully vaccinated with a percentage of 32.51.
This intervention came to confront COVID19 by protecting the medical team, workers and patients in Al Awda Hospital - largest facility to AWDA association and contribute to decreasing the transmission of COVID19 by providing them with PPE's and will conduct COVID19 rapid test according to the MoH protocols followed recently. The provision of essential services required imposing safety measures and precaution procedures, and the beneficiaries of the intervention during this reporting period from Feb. 2022 until July 2022, were 25634 classified as follows:
-(1760) beneficiaries from the Emergency department.
- (1601) beneficiaries from the maternity department.
- (21236) beneficiaries from the outpatient clinic services.
- (1037) beneficiaries from the surgical department.
Without applying the safety measures, we would not be able to provide the needed services for beneficiaries and protecting them from the being infected from COVID19.
