As of 31st May, 2020 there are 61 cases of COVID-19 in Gaza Strip, and as the virus could easily spread, this project comes to confront COVID19 by protecting the medical team, workers and patients in Al Awda Hospital which is one of the main and largest hospitals in the Northern governorate of Gaza Strip, where the hospital's staff and beneficiaries will be provided with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) & disinfectants, moreover poor families will be provided with hygiene kits.
The health sector in Gaza Strip suffers from successive crises due to the blockade imposed on the Strip for 14 years, in addition to the frequent attacks and aggression, which led to a weak state in providing health services. The dissemination of the Corona pandemic comes to add additional burdens to the health system in the Gaza Strip, as till 31th May, 61 cases are confirmed and 1 case dead. It is worth mentioning that Corona virus could easily spread in Gaza Strip due to the high density.
The project will contribute to promoting the protection of the medical team and workers of Al Awda Hospital who deal directly with the beneficiaries, in addition to protecting patients who are visiting the hospital through the provision of personal protection equipment and disinfectors. Moreover, the project will work to increase the protection of the local community by providing hygiene kits to poor and marginalized families, mainly women, elderly and people with disabilities.
The prevention interventions will protect Al Awda Hospital's health workers and patients and will contribute to limit the spread of Corona virus in Gaza Strip. The project will also strengthen the health system and increase its capacity to respond to the health needs of facing Corona virus. In addition, targeting the poor families in marginalized areas, especially Patients, elderly and PWD will reduce their infection with Corona virus and having good health and well being.
