For years, sunset meant the end of the day in Mbejere.
For women like Esnart, a mother of three, night meant kerosene smoke, coughing children, and darkness. Her daughters struggled to study by the dim light of a candle, and she spent over 150 Kwacha each month on kerosene, batteries and phone charging at the trading centre.
Three months ago, Kukula Solar installed a solar home system on Esnart's roof.
One small panel changed everything.
Now her home has three bright lights, a radio, and power to charge phones at home. Her daughters study for two extra hours each night. The kerosene smoke is gone. And the money she saves goes to school books and seeds for her farm.
"Before, we feared the dark. Now my home is safe and my children can dream," Esnart says.
At night, her house glows. Neighbors gather, children do homework together, and Esnart earns a small income charging phones for others.
