Thank you for Lifting Young Hearts with GITC!

Mililani Preschool Teachers 2012

Dear Friend,

Although this campaign has only been in existence for a couple of weeks, so much good has already been done because of your contribution that it's important to let you know what impact your charitable giving is having here. Thanks to your generosity and timeliness, we were able to raise enough money to green light programs in both Alabama and California and also make a $300 allocation to our program in Mililani, Hawaii in the preschool there, This is outstanding!

Now- and next month- teachers in three states are beginning a round of training. Kate has started the program in the South Mobile Head Start in Irvington and the teachers are LOVING this chance to learn to make and lead music, and to bring this to the pre-schoolers every day. One of our social media volunteers, Alan Breech, lives in Mobile and he will be visiting Kate's class tomorrow and taking photos for you to see.

Jeff Cicatko is teaching in Mililani. I am enclosing a photo of the teachers there. Mililani is in the heart of Oahu, It is not easy to get there and is not a vacation spot. Our trainer drives 90 minutes each way to reach this community because of some very interruptive road work repairing a bridge. But he determined to make sure these Hawaiian children have the benefit of making music- and learning their own cultural traditions as part of this. You can see by the smiles on the teachers' faces how much the chance to incorporate music in teaching means to them.

Brenda Crayk will begin training a beginner class for teachers in San Diego on November 27 at Sandburg Elementary. This school serves a diverse group of children from very hard working families, many with a single, very modest income taking care of everyone, sometimes three generations. The school is wonderful- positive, earnest, high-spirited and successful. The importance of bringing musical access to these children cannot be overemphasized because music serves as a cultural ambassador, a peace builder, a common language, AND a powerful tool of academic learning. At Sandburg, the teachers give their all and the families are very involved. We will be sending you a letter about Sandburg in December when we have had a chance to meet.

Will you please continue giving to this program if and when you can so we can carry the training throughout the school year? Together, let's reach our goal of having teachers in these three places independently prepared to keep the music alive in the general classroom!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your effort to make the world a warmer, brighter place for our children, whether they live in the heart of the South, near the Mexican border in California, or on an island in the Pacific. They are all ours and they need and appreciate our love and care so much.

With gratitude and excitement,

Jess
