The children of Grace Orphanage School, a rural school in the heart of Uganda, needed your help to set up lifesaving sanitation - & the community has responded, raising $10,000 to fund the build of a 5 drop toilet & washroom, and a bore/water well. The next immediate needs for the orphanage is electricity, shelter & food. Another $16,000 will help us make significant improvements in these areas, so we have increased our project goal to $26,000 & would appreciate any contribution you could make.
Grace Orphanage School doesn't have access to electricity for the 289 students and 10 teachers. At night-time everyone goes about things in darkness and they are limited with communication and cooking facilities. In terms of shelter, most of the iron sheets on the school and housing have holes in them - so when it rains, the water falls through the classroom and teaching stops. Nutrition is also a challenge at the orphanage, with children eating two small, low nutrition meals a day.
Girl Child Health Initiative International is aiming to raise $26,000 to - build a 5 stall long drop toilet system with a girl's washroom (this crucial first project has now been funded) -construct a school bore/water well (this second project has now been funded) -address electricity, shelter and food (current project to be funded). It will cost $16,000 to build the infrastructure to connect electricity, replace the roofing and purchase items to rejuvenate the soil and promote growth.
These projects will continue to transform the daily lives of the children at the orphanage, improving their health, safety, wellbeing and education. Any donation you can provide, big or small, will make a big difference to the children who need it most. Thank you for your support!
