Summary

A pregnant class 8 or Form 4- A very disturbing situation; interrupted education, unwanted baby and lack of survival skills! Should nothing be done to equip Teen Mothers to support themselves and their children; the society should ready itself to face a storm of street children and crime, an up-tide in prostitution and related health implications; a clear cycle of suffering. We are rebuilding lives of teen mothers through Training in life Skills, in Tailoring, ICT and other Craft courses.

Challenge

Teen Mothers lack adequate education and adequate training for employment. Most of them come from poor families and have no access to proper nutrition and health care. They lack access to low interest micro-loan for startup businesses . The stigma of having a baby, dropping out of school and being dependent on others is just overwhelming. Since our education system lack mitigating programs for readmission to schooling after delivery, the verdict on their lives is; illiterate and doomed

Solution

Life Skills for Teen Mothers aims to effectively equip 100 Teen Mothers and other Vulnerable Girls with practical skills for the labour market to be economically self-supporting and dependable members of the community. Our Free Vocational training in TAILORING, ICT and Crafts is a lifetime investment in the life of a Teen Mother. Our standard training and internship curriculum effectively makes a GRADE 3 tailor within 1 year, an office clerk in 6 months and a polished artisan 3 months.

Long-Term Impact

The goal of this project is to train a minimum of 100 students per year through a detailed certificate course in Tailoring, ICT and Hand Crafts. This turnover is an enormous skilled-labor force which will create jobs for Teen Mothers. Tailoring, ICT, Hand Craft skills are a life time investment, portable and transferable. Our project foresees a future of self-reliant and self-employed Teen Mothers effectively meeting the needs of the families and serving communities where they live.
