As TEGV, we thank the GlobalGiving community for the support it has given thus far for our Library Project. With the goal of creating Reading Cultures, this project aims to build three children’s library spaces in remote areas of Turkey, where children otherwise have no, or very limited, access to similar resources. In addition to providing resources, TEGV uses these spaces to create programming meant to inspire children’s love for and ability in reading. We want children to be more than simply literate. We want them to see reading as an avenue toward self-development, understanding the world, learning new things, thinking creatively and critically, and having fun. This Library Project is therefore an incredibly valuable goal for our target communities.
Since our last report, we have received $1030 in new donations, for a total of $2340 thus far. Though we still have a long way to go toward our goals, we have picked up the momentum with more and more donations coming in. We hope that this pace continues. In Turkish, there is a saying, “drop by drop, a lake is made.” Each of your donations is a greatly appreciated drop as we continue to work hard toward filling our Library Project lake. However large or small, we have such gratitude for all that believe enough in our project to dedicate any amount of their resources to us. Every drop counts; and, to the kids benefitting from this project, it inspires them by showing that people care about them from around the world.
The children of Siirt Kurtalan continue to enjoy the books and desks we purchased for them with the first $1100 of donations we received. We are waiting to collect $5660 of additional donations, before we take action again. With an additional $5660, we will have enough money to completely set up the Siirt Kurtalan library (including additional books, bookshelves, other furniture and renovations) so please tell your friends, colleagues and families to help us get closer to our goals.
We thank all of you for your support, and hope that in the next report we will be sharing that we have gotten enough donations to fully set up the Siirt Kurtalan library space!
