This is an ongoing project that provides support and sponsorship to LGBT youth ages between 6 years and 24 years who are routinely expelled from public schools to obtain specification in entrepreneurship which is designed to meet the current unemployment situation in Tanzania. All the LGBT youth who are supported by this project obtain requisite skills as either entrepreneurs or entrepreneurs to be self employed, employ others and be marketable wherever they find themselves
LGBT -identified Youth in Tanzania routinely experience direct and structural discrimination, persecution and violence due to lack of awareness of LGBT issues and extensive social stigma, at all levels of government and in society. They experience reduced access to healthcare, rights violations by police (often taking the form of extortion and physical and sexual violence),extensive discrimination in employment, education, and are stigmatized in most other areas of social life
The most direct and impactful support we offer to our LGBT youth are educational scholarships of approximately $800 annually. These scholarship funds can be used immediately for tuition and fees at any vocational training institution where they obtain entrepreneurship training to develop positive attitude towards self employment, and reduce the number of LGBT youth who live on streets. Beyond money, we provide hope and support to our often disenfranchised LGBT youth.
The effect of investing in the next generation of leaders goes behind the individual scholar and increases the well-being and productivity of the entire community. Our scholars represent a diverse group of youth who have dreams of making our community and the world a better place; and each of them possess the skills, talents and dedication to make those dreams a reality. We expect to fund upwards of 32-50 scholars per year.
